Take one ultra-violent PC game, throw in a couple of hot babes in skimpy outfits, and you're ready for a particularly bloody experience on your mobile.
Postal Babes puts you in the sharp-heeled shoes of Desi and Sweetie, who find themselves involved in a deadly assault on a University Campus. A series of maniacs are both killing students or rounding them up with bad intentions in mind. It's up to our heroines to take them down before they can.
Levels take place both indoors and outdoors, and consist of varying objectives, such as finding specific objects, climbing up balconies or killing all the enemies, to name just a few. Desi is a melee weapon expert, who is more at home bashing in skulls with a baseball bat, or taking swipes with a machete. Meanwhile, Sweetie is the firearms expert, happy to put her enemies out of their misery with a bullet or two.
The action takes place from a 2D perspective, with simple left and right movement via the d-pad, while Up and Down will jump and crouch, respectively. Pressing Up by an unlocked door will allow you to open it, while the 1 and 3 buttons also allow you to jump from side to side. You can attack with repeated presses of the action button or 5, while the star key puts you into an automatic combo.
Anyone who has experienced the original PC games, or perhaps even the terrible Uwe Boll movie, should know that this is a particularly blood-thirsty game, and not really one for kids. If you didn't already realise that, the fact that blood starts to seep down the screen on the main menu is something of a give-away as well. Before long, you'll be wandering down halls stained with blood and littered with corpses - not a particularly pleasant sight.
Levels start off relatively short and simple, and you should have little progressing making progress at first. Once the gun-play starts to begin, you'll find that the more heavily armed enemies will start to give you a few headaches, and will leave you having to be a tad more cautious in your approach to them. As fallen enemies will generally drop their weapons once defeated, once you've got a few kills in, your survival abilities should greatly improve.
Death comes when your health bar is drained entirely, though you will be able to simply start again from the level you were killed on, even if you choose to exit the game and come back to it later. As the levels are fairly short, you should find that you don't have to repeat too much if you do bite the dust. To try and keep yourself alive, there will be occasional health packs dotted around, usually hidden within crates and behind lockers that you can kick over.
The game is fairly sound from a graphical standpoint, with fairly detailed character models (although the enemies have admittedly been cut from the cloth of genericness), while you can expect fairly frantic, rocking BGM to occupy your ears in lieu of the minimal sound effects. Watch out also for numerous pictures of a certain George Dubya on the walls!
As a piece of harmless (well, kind of), bloody, violent fun, Postal Babes isn't that bad of a title. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and provides an entertaining, if somewhat short-lived, experience for gamers to play, provided they're not a bunch of young kids drooling over the scantily clad women!
