So, Classic Solitaire is a bit too bland for you now? You want to spruce up your card gaming with sun, sea, sand and partying? Then Party Island Solitaire may be the game for you. Consisting of 16 different types of Solitaire, including the traditional Klondike, Freecell, Poker, Mahjong and Spiderette (to name just a few) and the option to be sociable, there's plenty of shine on Party Island.
All 16 game types are unlocked from the outset, so if you don't like one particular type you can avoid playing it altogether. If you're willing to learn, each game comes with a detailed tutorial which will set you off nicely. There's the standard quick play mode, which allows you to choose your desired game and instantly divulge, or there's the Solitaire Challenges Mode.
Challenges Mode may seem like it's designed for experts, but in fact it acts as a rather good interactive tutorial. You are given 32 objectives, divided into 4 difficulty settings: easy, medium, hard and expert. The objective is stated at the top of the screen and it's your task to work through them. These range from basic Klondike challenges, which asks you to place 6 cards on the foundation (well that's easy because it's not even a full game) and then increasingly become more challenging. This mode will certainly ease you in if you're not familiar with Solitaire, but it can also be a nice challenge when you become an expert.
Each game comes with a life-line in the form of wild-cards. If the game seems to have come to a halt, you can select the one or two Joker cards on offer to change the play and perhaps get you through to the end. Of course, if you don't like this idea you can simply ignore it and carry on as usual, but it's a nice inclusion that can often prevent the frustration of not being able to finish a game.
If you need a break from the gaming, you can visit the Island's social network section. On Party Island you can choose your gender, clothing style and even a nicely tanned skin tone. The idea of the Party Island is to hook up with real life people (naturally you have to connect to the internet, so be careful of the costs) and show off your high scores. You can also chat to friends, update status messages, choose the music, check out your trophies, spend your well earned credits in the shop, play games, flirt, host your own party and get on the VIP list. There's a lot to do on Party Island.
If you want the best clothes and to hang out with VIPs in a special VIP area, then you need to do some specific tasks. The top of the screen shows the remaining tasks as well as the card you'll receive as a prize for doing them. For instance, such tasks include playing the main game and earning 2,000 cumulative credits. Ticking the task check sheet will earn you VIP cards and plenty of credits, as well as unlocking new items for the shop. The ultimate goal is to complete all the available tasks and win the Black VIP Card, something to show off to your VIP Party Island friends (or brag about, if they don't have it).
The Island is a great addition to the solid Solitaire gaming. If you're not a sociable person or you don't want to hook your mobile up to the internet, then you can avoid this part altogether. As for the Solitaire, each game is very nicely detailed and very smooth to play, albeit with no option to choose between 1 or 3-card deal (3 is standard). Whether you want to chat with fellow Party Island players or you simply want to play Solitaire, then I highly recommend this 16-pack.
